caden's birthday

I'm just over a week late blogging about Caden's 2nd birthday. There does not seem to be enough hours in the day anymore, but hey that is part of having children, right? Caden's birthday morning was not much different than any other morning that I'm home except he had an exciting present waiting for him in the living room.

He was SO excited to find an easel, which he calls an "eable".

He played with his "eable" ALL morning until naptime and made quite a mess of it.

We had a small family dinner, which my mother-in-law graciously held in her home. She made these awesome lego cakes. Caden was facinated with the candles on his cake and wanted us to keep lighting them so he could blow them out. He cried his little heart out when we sang happy birthday to him, and then he cried some more.
"It's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to, cry if I want to...."
Yes, I snapped many photos of my 2 year old crying at his birthday dinner.

Once he had a Diego cupcake he was in much better spirits. I learned he will only eat the frosting and not the cake. A week later he is still asking for his Diego cupcakes.

Caden made out for his birthday with clothes and toys. Our family is too generous! His nephew, Ethan, read all of Caden's birthday cards out loud. It was too adorable. (Since my blog is not private, I will not upload any pictures of Ethan and Christian - in case anyone is wondering.)

We still had a great time despite Caden's fits. He was only acting his age and I guess he is entitled to some days.
Thank you to everyone who shared this special day with us!

do they have to grow up so fast?

Dear Adisyn,

Mommy would like to ask you for a favor. Could you please stop trying to grow up too quickly? I am really okay with you being a baby and acting 3 months old. There is no need to show off. Despite how tiny you were at birth we all know you will meet your milestones.

Tummy time is for working on your neck muscles. I know you think you mastered that already, so you think it's okay to roll over from your front to back. I know you can do this too. You've been rolling over since you were 6-7 weeks old. I'm okay with you attempting back to belly.

Around 6 months is when I'll be ready for you to sit up on your own. You don't have to try pulling yourself up while laying in your swing. Just chill out and relax and look at the mobile above you, sweet child.

Most babies don't bear weight on their legs that I'm aware of at this age. I'm sure you see your big brother standing and walking and you just want to get on the move with him. Just so you know, I'm just fine having you cradled in my arms for a bit longer. You very well may be our last little baby, so please act your age. Mommy really wants to enjoy you being a baby a little longer.

On one last note. Thank you for a sweet ending to our weekend together. Mommy and Daddy (and I think Caden too) LOVED hearing you laugh. Daddy can be pretty funny, can't he?!

happy 2nd birthday, caden!

Before you were conceived I wanted you. Before you were born I loved you. Before you were here for an hour I would give my life for you. This is the miracle of life. ~ Maureen Hawkins.

The last two years have been amazing. They have been the best two years of our life. Our first born, Caden, came into this world April 17th, 2008 at 8:59am. A day we will never forget. A day that began a new chapter, a new beginning, a new life.

*************

Caden,

You have taught your father and I how to appreciate life. You have taught us unconditional love. You have taught us patience - probably me more than your daddy (he already had that). We hope you know how very proud we are of you and always will be. May your 2nd birthday and all those yet to come be blessed.

With all the love in our hearts,

Mommy & DaddyXOXO
